Medical Assisting

Program Overview

The Medical Assisting (MA) program is designed to prepare students for employment in various medical settings, such as a physician’s office, clinics and certain hospital settings. This program will prepare the student to function in a medical office or clinical environment as a medical receptionist, administrative assistant, insurance coder/biller, phlebotomist, EKG Technician, and as a back office clinical assistant/patient educator.

The curriculum provides students with the technical, clinical, and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in the medical assisting field. Upon successful completion students will be prepared to take the national exam for Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA).

 

Admission Requirements

  • 16 years or older
  • Basic Skills Levels: Computations (Math) 10.0 & Communications (Reading and Language Arts) 10.0

Students will be randomly drug tested once enrolled.

Level 2 Background Screening completed and cleared prior to enrollment.

What You'll learn

  • You’ll gain a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, pathology and basic concepts of pharmacology and psychology. You’ll be tasked with important procedures, like measuring vital signs, administering immunizations and performing phlebotomy (drawing blood).
  • Support clinic administration and management
  • Administer therapeutic injections and vaccinations
  • Perform in-house clinical lab testing and lab specimen collection
  • Perform EKGs, spirometry and audiometry
  • Assist physicians with patient care in a variety of in-office procedures
  • Perform patient data entry and charting
  • Care for patients one-on-one
